Español 8 - Information regarding the Regional Checkpoint A - Final Examination
May 2019
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Please take some time to read the following information regarding the Regional Checkpoint A Final Exam in Spanish.
The Final exam in Spanish will be given on Monday, June 24th. The exam consists of three parts, Listening, Reading and Writing.
The fourth part of the exam, the Speaking Portion must be given during class. I will start to test my students starting on Monday, May 20th. This portion of the Exam is worth 30 points. All of the 8th graders are required to complete 3 mini conversations one on one with me. This process will continue during class until June 5th. Students be assigned a speaking date this week. If the student is absent on the his/her assigned date he/she will be required to wait until the end of the round and make up the Speaking task on another allotted day. If the student is absent on the make up day he/she will be required to bring in a doctor’s note in order for the student to be assigned a 2nd make-up date. As you can see it is extremely important that all students be present during the last month of classes.
Students must pass the Spanish Final exam to earn the required High school credit and to be able to continue Foreign Language study in the High School. Any student who fails this exam and who has not been successful in 7th and 8th grade Spanish courses will be required to repeat the course next year. Students who are successful continue with their study of Spanish in the 9th and 10th grades. At the end of 10th grade students will take the Regional Checkpoint B exam that will count as a Regents credit.
We have been preparing for this during the entire school year. I have provided the students and will continue to provide the students with extensive review packets. All copies of filled in notes have been posted on Google Classroom as the year has progressed. I have instructed my students to complete and place them in a separate section of their binders .Take a look at them. Encourage your children to attend 11th period for extra practice. Please stress the importance of working hard until the end of the school year.
Thank you for your time.
I am looking forward to a successful end of the school year!
